Dubai recorded approximately 869,000 international overnight visitors in August 2026 alone, its strongest monthly volume since February. The figure extends a run of double-digit, month-on-month growth in visitor numbers since March, taking total international visitation for January to August 2026 to 6.97 million.
Hotel Occupancy Rate Hits 66%
Hotel occupancy in Dubai reached 66 percent in August 2026, representing 89 percent of the occupancy levels the city recorded in August 2025. The figure marks a steep climb from just 36 percent occupancy in March 2026, according to DET.
Hotel room inventory across Dubai approached 149,000 rooms by the end of August 2026, as a number of properties continued extensive renovation projects aimed at elevating the guest experience. In the first eight months of the year, the emirate's hotels recorded 21.61 million occupied room nights.
Hotel Sector Metric (Jan–Aug 2026) | Figure |
Hotel occupancy rate — August 2026 | 66% |
Hotel occupancy rate — March 2026 | 36% |
August 2026 occupancy vs. August 2025 | 89% of last year's level |
Hotel room inventory (end of August 2026) | ~149,000 rooms |
Occupied room nights (Jan–Aug 2026) | 21.61 million |
These hotel occupancy rates reflect one of the strongest recovery curves Dubai's tourism industry has posted in recent years.
Visitor Numbers by Region
Dubai continued to draw international visitors from a diversified mix of source regions between January and August 2026. Western Europe remained the leading regional contributor, followed by South Asia, the GCC, and CIS and Eastern Europe.
Source Region (Jan–Aug 2026) | Share of Total Visitors |
Western Europe | 20% |
South Asia | 17% |
GCC | 16% |
CIS & Eastern Europe | 14% |
DET said the diversified visitor base provides a broad international pool from which the department and its partners can continue to stimulate demand across established and emerging markets, in line with the goals of the Dubai Economic Agenda, D33.
Officials Comment on Performance
Issam Kazim, CEO of the Dubai Corporation for Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DCTCM), part of DET, said the results reflect the resilience of Dubai's tourism industry during a challenging period for the wider region. He said the industry's performance was supported by a consistently diverse source market mix, extensive hospitality infrastructure and an evolving destination offering, and that ATM provides an opportunity to strengthen partnerships and identify further demand across international markets.
Context: Regional Disruption and Recovery
Earlier in 2026, amid a regional situation that impacted global travel, Dubai's government delivered an AED 2.5 billion package supporting the tourism, hospitality and entertainment sectors. Since then, Emirates has restored 97 percent of its global network, while load factors at Dubai International Airport (DXB) continue to strengthen and are approaching 2025 levels.
DET has also continued building international awareness of the destination throughout the year through campaigns, market briefings, roadshows and partnerships tailored to key source markets. Among these efforts, the 'A Dubai Invite' initiative empowered Dubai residents from almost 200 nationalities to invite family and friends to experience the city, with more than 90,000 residents applying for benefits through the programme.
